“The National Rifle Association of America (NRA) announced today that Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre announced he is stepping down from his position as chief executive of the organization, effective January 31. Long-time NRA executive and Head of General Operations Andrew Arulanandam will become the interim CEO & EVP of the NRA.
“With pride in all that we have accomplished, I am announcing my resignation from the NRA,” says Wayne LaPierre. “I’ve been a card-carrying member of this organization for most of my adult life, and I will never stop supporting the NRA and its fight to defend Second Amendment freedom. My passion for our cause burns as deeply as ever.”
During an NRA Board of Directors meeting today in Irving, Texas, NRA President Charles Cotton reported that he accepted LaPierre’s resignation. According to the NRA, LaPierre cited health reasons as a reason for his decision.”
Charges
All of this comes amid corruption allegations and an upcoming criminal corruption trial in New York, where LaPierre, and former NRA officials Wilson Phillips and John Frazer are accused of allegedly misusing NRA funds to pay for personal expenses, including travel on private jets; overpaid favored vendors; and oversaw the steady financial decline of the nonprofit. While LaPierre cited “health reasons” when he announced his departure, it did occur just three days before the organization’s civil fraud trial got underway in Manhattan. MSN article here (which doesn’t suck) explains the finances.
However he also has his supporters.

OPINION:
“The most influential civil rights leader of the past half-century stepped down from his post on Friday, and few Americans noticed. Those who did were largely far-left establishment media types doing a victory lap over the resignation of Wayne LaPierre, longtime National Rifle Association executive vice president.
The real reason the professional left is celebrating is because Wayne consistently kicked their butts in Congress, state legislatures and at polling places across the nation. And America’s Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms is more robust than ever as a result.”
